SOLDIERS' LAND BALLOT.
(Special to "Star.") OWHANGO, Wednesday. The twelve sections which were balloted •for to-day attracted the intenseet competition amongst discharged soldiers. One hundred and ten applicants put in for the ballot, and of the dozen lucky winners no less than ten were King Country residents. The Commissioner of Crown Lands, Mr. G. H. McClure, stated subsequent to the "ballot that the men were of a particularly fine stamp, and lie ventured to predict the winners would make good, and he Tegretted he had not 10,000 acres for the same type of returned men. The results of the "ballot, which took place in the Public Hall in the presence of the large crowd of applicants, were received in a true sportsmanlike manner by th& unsuccessful once who cheered their more fortunate •fellows. In addition to the Commissioner, Messrs.. J. Georgetti, C. Mclntyre, and H. T. Ellingliam, members of the Wellington Land .Board, and Messrs. McGavin and Nicholson, of tile Department, were present.
