LEGISLATORS' SALARIES.
COMMITTEE'S REPORT. SEVERAL INCREASES PROPOSED. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Tuesday. Tho committee to which was referred the Civil List Bill reported to the House that clause 2 should ho amended as follows: "Sub-clause, (a) of clause 22, as regards Ministers, should be deleted" (this moans that Ministers may draw payment as members of Parliament as well as Ministers of the Crown); "that the salary of tho Speaker of the Legislative Council should be £800 per annum; Chairman of Committees, £450; Speaker of the House of Representatives, £1000; Chairman ol Committees, £700; members of the Legislative Council, £350; menrbers of the House of Representatives, £500. This latter payment should commence from the date of election, and in the case of (Legislative Councillors from the same date or from a later date of appointment." The comraiifee also recommended that a fund should be established by the allo. cation of public funds, for the purpose of aiding ex-members of the House and their families who require assistance, this fund to be administered by the Premier, the Leader of tho Council* Leader of the Opposition, and the Speaker* of both Houses. It was further recommended that the Leader 6f the Opposition l>o provided with a private secretary and typist, to *c selected by the Speaker. The report was received.
