AMERICA'S LATEST.

DIVORCE .MILL'S RECORD. (Spprlnl to "Shir.") SAN FRANCISCO, August 10. As the Chicago divorce calendar was becoming clogged. Chief .Justice Torrison assigned Judge Johnson to "clean it up.' . The judicial language was not at all dignified, but despite its slungy charac-, ter Judge Johnson seems to have gone about the task with conßiderable vigour. He disposed of 453 divorce cases in a fortnight, which, taking the working court hours into consideration, is a little more than six per hour, or about nine minutes each. The American public dearly loves a novelty, and whenever a record is established there is room for another outburst of enthusiasm, and this wbs the case with Judge Johnson's record, for he was . congratulated in liberating 453 couples in record time through the medium of the divorce mill.
