ALLEGED MANSLAUGHTER.
QUARREL IN POtXICDRY. ♦ , DEATH OF PRITOHARD. THE CORONER'S INQUEST. (By Association-) GISBORNE, Monday. An inquest was held to-day concerning the death of Harry Pritchard, in connection with which Alexander Rae Roderick Williamson was this morning remanded on a charge of manslaughter. Evidence of employees at' Niven'e Foundry was that a. quarrel arose, and ill a scuffle between accused and another apprentice both fell. Pritchard said: "Both you and youj cofaber want a hiding." The "cobber" was Williameon. Williamson and Pritchard then fougfot. Pritchard wae knocked down. One witii j* said that after the fight Pritchard remarked: "1 got a crack that time. I don't know whether it was the effect of Rae hitting mc or mc hitting the ground, but my head feels core." The police gave evidence that Williamson admitted knocking Pritchard down. 'He said: "I got on to Prifcchard for striking a boy named Charles. Pritchard shaped up and made a rush, and attempted to strike mc, but miseed. I struck him a right aerobe on the jaw. He got up and rushed mc, and caught mc by the thigh. The foreman came up and separated us." The coroner found the following verdict: —"The deceased, Harry 'Pritchard, died on September 18 from cerebral pressure, the result of hemorrhage on the brain, and this injury is to a blow struck on the deceased's head by Alexander Williamson during a quarrel at Niven'e Foundry on Friday, September 3."
