SAVE THE CHILDREN FUND.

AUCKLAND QUOTA OVER £12,000. THE FUND \NOW CLOSED. A wind-up meeting of the "Save the Children Fund" effort of Auckland province was held at the Town Hall to-day, Mr. H. B. Caughey presiding. The financial result of the effort was reported by the treasurer (Mr. G. H. Fleming), who stated that at the date fixed for the closing of the fund the contributions had amounted to £ 12,803 3/3, and the expenses to £210 17/, leaving £12,592 5/3 available. Since then £17 14/4 had come from Rotorua, and £71 15/4 from other sources, making the total to date £12,892 11/11. There had in all been 1190 contributors, 87 of them being churches and religious bodies, reponsible for £1006, and 44 schools accounted for £289. Hamilton had contributed £2500, Thames £452, Opotiki £341, Rotorua £330, Waihi £200, Tβ Awamutu £98, Cambridge £78, Samoa £175, the Auckland Red Cross Society £1000, and general contributions had amounted to £7027. Of the amount £ 12,262 had been forwarded to the High Commissioner in Britain. The chairman (Mr. Caughey), in muring the adoption of the balance-sheet, stated that it was a highly satisfactory justifier of the appeal on behalf of the children in the famine stricken areas of (Europe. Aβ the amount remitted from J New, Zealand would be subsidised £ for I £ by the British Government, the New Zealand contribution would be substantially increased before it was expanded in the farmine areas. He paid a tritm-v to the work of the committees outside Auckland, and to the canvassers and members of the committee in the city, specifically mentioning 'Sir. and Mrs. Glinson and Mr. E. C. Cjitten, SJtf. for their pert in Jauvching the campaign, and Messrs J. W. Court" (secretary), and G. M. Powlds,- Rev. T. F. Jones, and Mr. G. H. Fleming. Mr. J. H. Gunson, in seconding the adoption of the balance-sheet, paid a tribute to the self-saerifieing voluntary work done by the chairman in making it a eucce^s. The balance-sheet was adopted andihe meeting decided to wind up the appeal. Resolutions of appreciation to the hon. auditor (Mr. T. E. Whitton), the members of the town and country committees, and the Red Cross Society were unanimously carried.
