DEFINING THE AMATEUR.
LIMIT FOB EXPENSES. (Received 11 a.m.) SYDNEY, this day. The N.S.W. Amateur Athletic Association has agreed to the request of Australian and New Zealand associations to take a mail vote on the question of substituting the Olympic programme for the existing programme at Australasian meetings. Mr. Miller, Rugby League secretary, commenting on the report of the sub-committee on the amateur definition, said that the th r <» main points seemed to be that each amateur body should control its own affairs with the federation as a court of appeal, that amateurs be allowed five shillings a day expenses, and that each club be under purely amateur control. Mr. Richard Coombes regards the proposals as impracticable, though he sees no reason why amateur and professional athletes could not play together in football, the same as in cricket and other games.—(A. and N.Z. Cable.)
