The Auckland Presbytery-s Foreign Mission Committee last night welcomed | Jjr. John Kirk, professor at the medical . college. Canton, and Mr. A. Cordon Wilson, a missionary from that district. | The welcome took the form of a dinner : ,: the Strand Cafe. The Moderator : (Rev. -I. I'attisoui presided. j Mr J. M-A., on behalf of tiie Foreign Missions ( onrmittec, and Mr. A- Wilson, of the Sunday School Cnion for the congregations. Dr. Kirk, replying, said this welcome r lip-ed any previous reception of the kind tendered them in New Zealand. He was convinced by his experience in rais in-j funds for the medical work that the liu-inßss men in the Dominion were recognising they i.ad an interest in missions. ' The Chinese, who were now trying to help tbem-ehes, fully realised tlte value of Christianity. The mission ■ho.-pit.al in Canton was constructed ot fcrro-concr.te. under the supervision of hi- colleaj.'iie. Mr. Wilson. He also stated that during the las; few years many Americans when in China had rendered good service to their missions. Mr. A. CL Wilson dealt with the latent possibilities of China, its .mruense mineral resources, and enormous population. He arpned that China wou'd yet become a great Power, and only the 'pread of the Cospc] c-onld prevent the mi of such power being for evil.
