lii the House of Representatives, a motion by tbe Prime Minister tor leave to introduce a bill to make provision for acceptance of the mandate over captured (Jerman possessions in the Pacific, led to a hot passage between Mr. \V. M. Hughes and Air. T. J. Ryan (Labour leader). The- proceedings at times were very lively. Mr. Ilyan demanded that an idea should be given of the contents of the hill. This -Mr. Hughes refused, and he told Mr. Ryan to wait until the measure was introduced. He accused Mr. Ryan of attending the House only in his spare time, and o? not doing enough to earn his I'arliamentary salary. Mr. Ryan had his revenge, as tbe Government failed to secure a quorum of the House, and the motion lapsed.—(A. and N.Z.)
