HAMILTON POSTAL OFFICE.
BUSINESS DOUBLED.
>"EED FOR FURTHKIt KXTENSIOXS. (By Telegraph.—Own r'm-rcppoiuloiH.) lIAMILTUX, this day. The prow til of the postal business at nnmiltiin lias boon very j;rpsit during tin' past three years—lmp, in fait, more tlinn ilniiblcd itself, and although the pci-t office was pniiirgcd to almost dmiblp its s-'iT.Q in i'.ilii, the nccorumudati vi is agHin cramped, and further extensions will bo nei-u.-stvry if the staff is to adequately i-ope with the work. When lilt , last, improvements were made, an additional 140 private letter boxes were added to the existing 120, making a total of -ilil). Of these there are now only , live left, which, it is anticipated, will be taken up during the present month. The Department will then have to consider acquiring further space for the private box lobby, and unless an encroachment, is made on the mail room, which at present is none too large, additions will have to be made to the building. The new automatic telephone installation, which is housed in a new concrete building at the rear of the present ollices, should be operating within a month, but the telephone subscriber.--' lir-t Ims swelled go rapidly that the installation is found tj be almost too small before it is put into use. If it is the intention of the. Department to allow the chief post office to remain in its present position, then the question of big extensions should bu immediately considered, for with the rapid expansion of the town and disirirt, it might quite safely be anticipated that the business will again double itself within the next three or four rears.
