DAVIS CUP TIES.
A WIN FOR HOLLAND. fy, LONDON, July 14. •Holland defeated South Africa in the first round of the Davis Cup contest. The singles resulted in a tie, each winning a match. Holland then won the deciding match. Raymond was unable to represent South Africa owing to an accident. France and the United States will play their round at Eastbourne on July 8. The "Daily Telegraph" states that Kinjrscote and leading tennis officials rejrard as objectionable tlio proposal to select R. Lyc.ett, the former Australian player, to represent the British Isles in the Davis Cup team. (_L and N.Z. Cable.)
