i -Mr. T. W. Rhodes, M.P. far Thames, i arrived in Auckland this morning. Mr. H. D. Thomson, Under-Secretary for Immigration, is in Auckland on duty connected with his Department. Mr. W. Smart, who joined the eervice of the Union S.S. Company as" third engineer of the Penguin 37 years ago, hae retired upon superannuation. Mr. Albert Spencer, president of the Auckland -Employers' Association, and Mr. S. E. Wright, secretary, have returned from Wellington. Mt. M. Rudd has arrfved from Dunedin to take up the position of assistant manager for the Union 5.6. Company at Auckland. Mr. C. Lightfoot, of the local Labour Department, arrived from t>.; North this morning, and leaves by the express toriorrow for Wellington. i Mr. M. M. McCallum, chairman of the Prices -Investigation Committee at Auckland, hae entered a private hospital to undcrgogin operation. It is expected Mr. McCallum will be out again in about three weeks' time. Mr. C. S. Plank, district engineer at Auckland for the Poet and Telegraph Department, left for Wellington 'by last night's express, having been promoted to inspecting engineer. 'Mr. E. C. Gage, of Christchureh, succeeds Mr. Plank in this city. Captain T. W. Maben. who since his return from overseas eighteen months ago has held the position of adjutant and quartermaster at the King George Military Hospital at Rotorua, is being demobilised at his own request. Prior to his departure he received presentations from the patients and staff of the hospital. At the social evening which was held in'the V.M.C.A. Lieutenant Fraser, in a happy little speech, referred to Captain Maben's many good qualities, and to the fact that being a returned soldier himself, Captain Maben thoroughly understood the "Digger," who was always sure of a sympathetic hearing from him.
