DRIVER'S MARVELLOUS ESCAPE.
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.)
WANGANUI, this day.
A sensational motor car accident and miraculous escape of the driver occurred about 12 miles up the Wanganui River yesterday. Mr. W. Tennant, of Wanganui, taxi-driver, was motoring along the bank in the vicinity of the starting point of the rowing championship course. He had just dropped some passengers, and was turning round when the wheels became locked, the engine began to race, and the car leaped completely over the bank, dropping a hundred and fifty feet, turning a couple of somersaults in the air, and depositing Mr. Tennant on a ledge only two feet wide. The car then again leapt and dropped into the bed of the river. The total drop is estimated at 300 feet. Mr. Tennant escaped with a few bruises.
