LIBERALS AM) LABOUR.

(By Telegrapn.—Press Association.) STRATFORD, this day. Mr. Robert Masters' victory in gaining the Stratford eeat was celebrated by a great social gathering, and presentation of a gold watch and chain. Amongst the guests were the Hon. W. d>. S. MacDonald, who, after referring to the Liberal party's record, declared that the greatest need of New Zealand at present was strong, virile men, to help rebuild and reconstruct the country after the war, end Mr. Masters was such a man, •who ought to attain the highest parliamentary rank. The liberals would not go to Parliament with the idea of embarrassing the Government, tout would agt for what they thought the 'best for every section of the people. Mr. Mac- ' Donald deplored tbe Government's lack of policy, particularly with regard to land. He said he believed the great majority of the people -were Labour, though Labour was unfortunate in some of its leaders.
