DAMAGED CARGO STEAMER.
EXTENSIVE REPAIRS EEXJOIBED.
l(Bx Telecraph.—Press Association.) ! WELEESTGTON, this day.
The inter-state cargo steamer Ingai ■was taken up on the Wellington patent slip at noon yesterday to repair damages to her hull resulting from her recent contact with, rocks in the South Taranaki Bight. Examination yesterday ' afternoon showed that the Inga's bull had 'been damaged to the extent of several thousand pounds. There are several 'holes aft, one- of which, located on the port side about four feet above the level of the keel, is large enough for a man to enter. On the starboard side there are several smaller holes in about the same position. The vessel is also l ! bad,ly dented amidships and forward;: in fact, there is very little of the ship's ■bottom that is not marked. Arrange-. ments have ibeen made to temporarily) patch the Inga's Jmll, and tft* vessel will subsequently go to Sydney for permanent repairs. Those who viewed ther damages wonder at the Inga liaving managed to keep afloat till she reached •Wellington. »
