MAIZE CROPS THREATENED.

AN IMPORTED PEST.

(Br Telegraph.—(Pices AMoctetioa.) TAUBANGA, this day. At the Chamber of Commerce meeting last night a question was raised as to a serious menace to maize growing in the Dominion from pests n maize imported from Fiji. A small sample exhibited here -was full of weevil and moth known as angumoie, a moth which the inspector declares will prove more deadly than flreblight in fruit trees. The position is understood to be that the inspector has no power to condemn the Fiji maize, and consequently cargoes are arriving and the pests being spread broadcast. The Chamber has passed a motion drawing the attention of the Government to the menace, and demanding immediate action.
