REV. JASPER CALDER.

On the eve of entering into his new work in the Anglican City Mission the itev. Jasper Calder and Mrs. Calder were entertained at a social gathering in the Y.M.CA. rooms on Saturday evenjig. During the evening a presentation of the sum of £175 wa's made on behalf ■of friends and supporters by Mr. C. H. Olive. He referred in eulogistic terms to the work of both Mr. and Mrs. Calder and the influence which they swayed, this good fellowship 'being evidenced in the various parishes in which they had (laboured. He explained the minister's popularity hy the fact that his sermons were a real heart-to-heart talk with the congregation. In expressing appreciation of his friends' benevolence Mr. Calder said that any success be had . achieved had only been possible through the support given him by the laity. He referred to his pending work as City Missioner,- for which there was much scope in these intense days of reconstruction. The object of the mission was not to draw people frdin the congregations, but to seek out those who did not attend church.
