THE DROP IN METALS.

WEALTH LEVY FEARED.

LONDON, May 23

The British Metal Corporation, in v circular, attributes the decline in the prices of non-ferrous metals since February to excessive speculation, the fear of a war wealth levy, and the restriction of bank credits. The position as regards speculation is now sounder, and the attitude of the banks was misunderstood, because tlie banks wish to check unsound ventures, but the fear of a levy is widcscprcad and genuine, and may produce a great financial crisis. The sooner Parliament comes to a decision the better.— (A. and N.Z. Cable.)
