At present in Auckland arc Mr. R. T. Riley, of Winnipeg, a director of the Canadian National Railway System, and Mrs. Riley. Their tour is solely for pleasure. Mr. and Mrs. Riley came from Vancouver to Australia by the Canadian Importer, leaving the vessel in Sydney and making their own way across the Tasman Sea.. They are to rejoin her in Auckland. Mr. Riley describes her as "the ice-cutter" of the new Canadian-Aus-tralasian trade, of which he holds the highest hopes. He is seemingly well qualified to speak, as, apart from duties as director of this important railway board'—which, incidentally, performs the functions of a shipping board as well—« he has important banking and insurance interests.
