An industrial conference is to open at Wellington on June 9, at which representatives will be present from the ' various, employers' associations of the Dominion. Th» object, is to consider the present industrial conditions, and in connection therewith the growing industrial unrest. It is hoped that some solution will be' found, which while allaying the present unrest, will also result in that most important of all matters at the present time, increasing production, as the only real means of reducing the high cost of liv_ig. i The Board of Trade anti-profiteering tribunal yesterday received five complaints of high prices, and since a large number <W cases are now the subject of inquiry, the sitting begun yesterday continues to-day, and will most probably on Monday morning as well. Much, of yesterdays inquiry; concerned ladies' footwear, - and no less than fourteen samples of stylish shoes of high quality were submitted by a manufacturer. The tribunal' decided that the wholesale price of these articles would justify a considerable decrease in the retail price charged by many Queen Street shops. Several complaints _aye been received from Gisborne, and thither the tribunal will journey on Tuesday.
