THE POTATO CROP.
AMD APBTKAUAW SHORTAGE. PROTEST FROM OAMARU. - (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) OAMARU, this day. A conference of the South Island Potato Growers' Association was held in Oa'hiarii last nightj Mr. J. A. Jolineton presiding, when consideration-was given to a cablegram stating that the importation of potatoes into the Commonwealth from New Zealand had been prohibited on account of serious disease. Tiie secretary was instructed to forward a-copy-of the cable to the Minister of Agriculture, and to Mr. Barnett, Af.P., stating that there is no disease in the crop, and asking for investigation. It was derided that a deputation wait on the Premier and Minister of Agriculture for the purpose of laying before Jiim the present unsatisfactory state of the potato market.
