The assessment for ho3piu'J and charitable aid for the year is £2US(J 12,4, representing an increase of 40 per cent, on tho previous year. The Mayor explained that in "lOiiii-7 the Borough Vi assessment was : £532. Four years later it was still niiii-r £000, and then it "bejean to leap every year. The great increase this year would necessitate a rate of 4d instead of 3d in the £. The assessment by the Auckland and Suburban Drainage Board is the same as last year, £2325. Notice was given by the Mayor to move the striking of the following ratee for the year on the ratable value of property in the borough:—l/ 4in the £ as a general rate, being Id higher than last year; 4d in the £ as a hospital rate; and 33d in the £ as a drainage rate. In addition to these a sanitation rate of lid in the £, and the various borough loan rates will also be etruek.
