Colonel J. R. Purdy, N.Z.M.C., has been awarded the Colonial Auxiliary Forces long service medal. Mr. J. Collins was last night appointed for the 21st consecutive year secretary to the Takapuna School Committee. Miss Hanna, matron at Sunnyside Mental Hospital, has been appointed inspecting matron under the Department. ■Mr. A- J. Bullock, the Dominion superintendent of the New Zealand Shipping Company, will be in Auckland for a. few days. Dr. R. L. Wethers has been appointed Medical Officer at Kaikoura Hospital. Ho was formerly Senior House Surgeon at Christchurch Hospital Mt. Irani McCarthy, "svelHcnawn in musical circles, has received cabled advice of his β-ppointment to a managerial position in Melbourne. Mr. McCarthy leaves ior that city aib an early date to take up the administration of several industrial concerns. Mr. W. J. French, of Berkeley, California, son of Mrs. R. French, of Bemuera, has been elected to the chairmanship of the Californian Industrial Accident Commission, which had become vacant through the resignation of Mr. A. J. Pfllsbuxy, -nrith whom Mr. French has been, associated on the commission since its inauguration in. 19^*^—
