FIGURES FOR APRIL. The office of the registrar of births, marriages, and deaths in. Auckland had a busy month in April, the returns showing an all-round increase on the corresponding figures for April of last year, and also for the four-monthly period from the beginning of the year. It will be seen that thers has been a. phenomena] increase in marriages during the past four months, as compared with, the corresponding period of last yea-r, while, what is somewhat surprising, considering that we were still differing from the aftermath of the influenza epidemic in the early months of I'll!), the number of deaths this year are well ahead of last year's total' up to the end of April. Of the 177 marriages last month , *41 were celebrated at the oiiice of the registrar, bring "lie less than in April, 1010. but the'total tif civil marriages for the four months this year is 169, a3 against 1211 for the corresponding ifour months of 1919. It is interesting to know that among the marriage license* issued in April were four .Tnthorising the joining in bonds of holy : -t.rimony of couples whose native him; U China.
