Lieut.-Colonel J. ' E. Duigan, chier staff officer for the dis•trict, stated that returned soldiers would : take the right of the line, and it was'" proposed that tbey should parade according to their units. j The meeting decided that an endeavour I would be made to put the men of each " unit under the senior available officer of ' that unit. The hope was expressed that f every officer and man who could possibly s parade would do so, and it was stated c that while men possessing uniform ' should ivear it, men who could only I parade in mufti were wanted equally as ' much, in order that the parade should * he as large as possible. THACKER THREATENS j \ % TROUBLE. j i If the Mayors of Auckland and Wellington'nre invited to attend-the Maori reception to H.R.H. the Prince of Wales j at Rotorua, and no invitation is extended to tbe Mayor of Cliristchnreh (Dr. H. T. J. Thocker, M.P.), there is ; going to be -a. row" ("says the "Sun"). A warning of that was given to the Minister of Internal Affairs (Hon. Sir Francis Bell) by Dr. Thacker. At the , conclusion of the Minister's "business • with a Christchurch City Council deputation, the Mayor asked if there was to he an official Parliamentary reception to the Prince in Wellington. "Yes,"' replied Sir Francis Bell, "inWellington—and you will get your invitation." "I wondered," said Dr. Thacker, "hecause I haven't received an invitation yet—nor one for the Native reception at Rotorua." The Minister explained that accommodation at Rotorua would be filled to overflowing with tho Natives and the Prince's staff. The only Dominion guests Tvould he the Rt. Hon. Sir Joseph and Lady Ward, the Hon. Sir James and Lady Carroll, and the Hon. and Mrs. W D. S. Mac Donald. "What about the Mayors of the large cities?" suggested Dr. Tiiaifter. "They wil not be there," wns the reply. "We cannot possibly invite more, for we could not put them up. We have even had to refuse some of our own stair and generals."
