100 MILE OOBAX KACE. ROUGH WEATHER COXDTTIOXS. OXLT SIX YACHTS COMPLETE TITB COURSE. A hard breeze from north-east by east prevailed on Saturday afternoon, when the ■Royal N.Z. Yacht Squadron and the North .Shore laclit Club held a combined ocean race over a course out in the gulf totalling lfX) mUes. The direction of the wind made It very ronpli, especially In the brat down the Gnlf from Canoe Rock, off Kawau to Hie mark lioat off Coromaudel, and out or the 22 starters only sii completed the course in the two cIUDs. Jloana, an oldtimer, sailed remarkably well, and won the squadron's lirst prize, being the first boat to finish, beating lorangi by ;T0 seconds. Victory, on the 50 minirte mark, won the Ingrain Gun, tile first prize in the North 'Shore Clnb, whric lorangi was third in cacn event. The race started from King's wharf at 2.30 p.m., all gening away close together, with the exception of Mafic, Wairiki, and ■Npanan, which were lite. On the boat down harbour Moana took the lead, closoly followed by lorangi, Victory, Waione, ■Ladye Wilma, and VUdng, with the others tail'ng out astern. All rhe boats fetched Oinoe Rock on rtie starboard tack, with a little* U) spare, lorangi l>eing first round the Hock at (!h Um, alwirt 11 minutes ahead ot Moaua. which led Victors" by a nrlmitc. Several boats, Inclnding Viking, whk-h had a rcishap, put into Kawau, also all the centre-board boats, except Starllglit anu ■Wailere, which bartlcxl on, Wattcre giving up when only a few miles from the turning mark, through an accident to her gear, but Starlight completed Hie course. 'ITie CoromandH mark was roundwl first by .Moana about lioO a.m., lorangi making it at 12.35 a.m.. and Victory at 12.40 a.m. Ul Jhree set spinnakers for the run home to Matialia, lorangi carrying away a shtono and her spinnaker on this part of the J °The"'finish was timed as follows:— Moana 31i 4(lm 50s, lomngi ,'!h 47m 40s, Vietorv 3h ."i:im 20.<.
