Contract. —The Council agreed to pay the wages Incurred by the vrlth the reconstruction, of tie wharf approach wall. Warer.—The waterworks engineer (Mr. J. ■Williamson) reported that tor the month of January -the quantity of water pumped .bad been 3.672,000 gallons of which 1,421,000" had been for the Takapuna borough. The level of Lake Takapuna. was Sft 6in above high sea water mark. Coal Shortage.—lt was resolved to support the suggestion o * the Westport District Citizens' Committee that the Parliamentary party should, prior to going to .Samoa, visit that coalfield, make inquiries iuio the. cauee of the shortage of coal, and devise means to overcome the difficulty. I*icnic.—The invitation to *he annual picnic of the Local Bodies Labourers' Union was accepted. l*ubllc Buildings.—The trustees of the Masonic Hall applied for a license for the purpose of holding public meetings aud entertainments. A provisional license was issued for one month, pending further information (Including seating copacitv, etc.) oemg supplied. MOUNT EDEN. Tbe Mount Eden Borough Council met last night, the Mayor (Mr. C. Hudson) presiding. Drainage Scheme. —It was decided to raise a further £10,000 of the loan of £135,000 for drainage— at present £60,000 vt the loan has been raised. The Mayor proceedins with mdre expedition and as economically aa desired. The necessity for the observance of these points was impressed upon the Streets Committee. It was decided to make an offer for tie purchase of a site at the comer of Richmond Street and Kensington. Avenue for the purpose of sinking a shaft and driving a tunnel to connect with the present soak hole on lot 67. In connection with numerous complaints of flooding, the Mayor reported that the Streets Committee had «ieeidf<l that the origin of the trouble was due t-> the soak Soles not being regularly cleared. Instructions -were given to the engineer to remedy the matter.
