Professor Hunter moved that all changes in the University Statutes shall come into force in \he year following tiiat in which they are passed, unless the Senate direct otherwise.—Carried. Th c Entrance Examinations Committee recsmniended that matriculation paper 1» as at present, three-hour papers except in elementary mathematics, in which there should be three papers of two hours each, instead of two papers of three hours each, a= at present. The recommendations was carried. With the object of promoting in New Zealand a iietter knowledge of the French lanpuase and literature, the Arts and Commerce Committee rei-ommended that a travelling scholarship in French be offered every year u*omraenein;r this year) of the annual value of £200, and tenable for two years tif the holder has done satisfactory work in the first year). This was agreed to. The diploma is to be (a) open ! to students of the university who have! jrraduated in arts or science, or who nave' kept terms in not less than four subjects in these courses at an affiliated college; (b) have pursued a course of training approved by the university: and ('•> have complied with the conditions! ■which are defined. The statute is to come into eperatlon this year. It was decided that of the candidates for the preliminary science examination ior the certificate of proSciencv in dental | surgery, five be recorded as havins passed the whole examination, and one as baring passed in two subjects; that I of the candidates for the accountants' preliminary examination SO be recorded as having passed the whole examination and 33 as having passed in Eections.
