ODD MAN OUT.
U.SA. AND THE LEAGUE. (Received 8 a-m.) WASHINGTON, January 22. Messrs. Johnson and Reed, members of the Senate, declare that no further compromise in connection with the Peace Treaty should be made by the Senate beyond the acceptance of the reservations made by~Mr. Lodge. •It is announced that Mr. Raymond Fossdick (Under Secretary-General to the League of Nations) has cabled his resignation to Sir Eric Dnimmond (Sec-retary-General of the League) on the ground that the uncertain position of the United States in the League makes the severance necessary. Mr. W. J. Bryan declared in the course of a speech: "The delay in the ratification of the Peace Treaty is an outrage. I love the Democratic party too well to permit it to commit the crime of making the Treaty an election issue, thus causing an additional delay of 17 months."—(A and N.Z. Cable.)
