THE AUCKLAND REGATTA.
THOUSAND FOUNDS WANTED. The annual regatta this year promises to rcvire a lot of latent interest which will make for a epectacuiar display in keeping with the best traditions of aquatic sport on the Waitemata. The Anniversary Committee met last night to make- the preliminary arrangements for the function at the 'end of this month, Mr. A. <}. Limn presiding. With a view to carrying out the comprehensive programme, the committee decided to moke a personal canvass of the city in an effort to rqj#e £1000. The secretary, reported that cash contributions to the amount of £47 7/ had been received, and also trophies to the value of £6. Substantial response was expected from the circularising of 1200 Auckland citizens for funds. The question of securing a suitable flagship was discussed, and a committee appointed to wait on the captain of the fine six masted barquentine E. R. Sterling to see if that ship could be secured. An alternative was suggested in a letter front Mr. T. Henderson, .who suggested using the Calliope Dock, which lended itself admirably for the iwimming events and eide shows; while the sailing events' could be started from the dock wharf. The chairman was appointed trf wait on the Harbour Board to make the arrangements for the the dock if the necessity arose. 5"
