■ Dr. R. H. Makgill, acting chief health jfficer, left for the South yesterday. Vcn. Archdeacon Hawkins, superintenlent of the Maori Mission, left for Whangarei last night. Th c Mayor (Mr. J. H. Gunson) returned from his holidays yesterday and transacted municipal business at the lown Hall as usual. Commissioner Hodder, head of the Saltation Army in New Zealand, left Frankton last night for Wellington, accompanied by Mrs. and the Misses Hodder. The consecration of Yen. Archdeacon Richards, of Invercargill, as Bishop of Dunedin, takes place to-day in St. Paul's Cathedral, Dunedin. Mr. Harold Beauchamp, chairman of directors of the Bank of New Zealand, who arrived at Auckland on Sunday from England, left for Wellington by train yesterday. Mr. A. H. Chambers, general manager of the Union Bank of Australia, Ltd., has arrived in Auckland, and is staying at Cargen Hotel. He is accompanied by Mrs and Miss Chambers. Mr. H. M. Skeet, Commissioner oi Crown Lands for the South Auckland Land District, left for Rotorua yesterday on departmental business, which is expected to occupy about a week. Rev. Father O'Reilly, rector of St. John's College, Sydney University, left for Rotorua yesterday. On his return he will conduct the annual retreat of the bishop and clergy of the Auckland Roman Catholic diocese. Dr. Truby King, accompanied by Mrs King and daughter, arrived back at WellinuLon from nsland via Sunday by the Moeraki on Sunday, and proceeded tc Dunedin. The death of Mr. Cyril Francis Scohell, a member of the "Diggers" Divisional Concert Party, occurred at Wellington Hospital after a severe operation. The deceased, who formerly helonged to Plympton, Devon, England, served in the Sew Zealand Expedtion- ;- ary Force. Being an able reciter he soon became known in the New Zealand Division, and delighted many thousands of New Zealand soldiers as a member of the Concert Party within the sound of the guns at the front. Mr. George Bush, representative of the Kaianoi Woollen Co., in Nelson and on the West Coast,, who is entering partnership with Mr. J. C. Thompson in Auckland, was entertained by his fellow commercial travellers in Wellington and presented with a highly complimentary letter, which it was proposed afterwards to have engrossed. Last week Mr. Bush was also presented by the Mayor of Nelson (Mr. W. W. Snodgrass) with a purse of fifty sovereigns, subscribed by the citizens as a mark of their esteem.
