AN UNDERGROUND DEAL.

LONDON, January 4. Mr. Solomon Joel has purchased Speyer Brothers' interest in the London Underground Corporation, which at the lowest estimate, had a market value of a million sterling. Speyers sold out because Sir Edgar Speyer intends to remain in America, whither he went early in the war owing to resentment at his German extraction. It is noteworthy that the Underground Corporation presented a bill to Parliament in order to obtain authority to vastly increase the fares. (A. and N.Z. Cable.)
