ROSS WINS FIRST RACE.

SYDNEY, January 4. Special interest was taken in the race for the New South Wales 220yda swimming championship owing' to Norman Ross, the American champion, competing. The race resulted:—Ross, 1; Kirkland, 2; Longworth, 3. Though he has not yet had time to strike form, Ross won easily by three yards in 2m 32 4-ss. Kirkland beat Longw'orth by half a yard. The 100 yds back-stroke championship for New South Wales was won by Beck in lm 16 4-ss.—(A. and N.Z. Cable.)
