MARINE ENGINEERS' STRIKE.
(Received 10.35 a.m.)
SYDNEY, this day
The marine engineers' notices to strike expire to-day, and many vessels have been rushed to sea to prevent the engineers coming ashore. The strike affects all inter-State shipping and the Commonwealth vessels trading overseas. The Union Company's fleet is not involved. The men rejected the owners' offer of an increase of £2 per month. So far only 400 marine engineers out of a total of 3300 are affected by the dispute. A mass meeting of the* Amalgamated Society of Engineers decided to serve all employers with notices del manding increased wages.—(A. and N.Z.)
