•a — i »- —~ DROP IN UNEMPLOYMENT. Another large batch of applications for loans for businesses or the purchase of furniture came before the meetings of the Auckland District Repatriation Board this week, and arants to the amount of £2571 were approved. The employment figures showed a still further improvement on the position reached last week, and another record was established, the 68 men remaining on the register unemployed representing the lowest unemployment figures so far reported to the Board. Last week- the number remaining on the books was 74. Since then 4S applications have been received, 45 men have been definitely placed in employment, three have failed to reply to communications, and five have been presumed to have found work, having failed to report for a month. Various applications for subsidies, tools of trade, books and fees for studying and training in workshops were dealt with.
