SURPRISE PACKET DAY.
On Friday the Warehousemen and|i Commercial Travellers" Association launch their •surprise packet day. when the!; public, for the expenditure of one shilling, will have a chance afforded of ' winning a valuable prize. This surprise packet scheme quite reverses the usual commercial, travellers' dictum of examine carefully before you purchase, a; the envelopes, being securely gummed, every- \ thing is left to chance. In this .'ounection it is perhaps just as well to explain that a Citizens' Committee has been in- , vited by the "commercials" to fill the , envelopes for the special prizes, and also to mix them thoroughly with ail the , other mass of envelopes, so that there is no chance of favouritism. The Prime Minister and the Hon. A. M. Myers have both been invited to act on this commit-! tee. Amongst the special prizes are sec-' tions of land, a 100-guinca piano, an J aeolian vocalion and records valued at £70. In addition there are valuable articles of household furniture, a number of eight-guinea watches for ladies, a sideboard valued at £20, a 10-guinea typewriter, and even a free course of instruction in wireless telegraphy is Offered valued £25. Other prizes are 4$ per cent, war bonds, a seven-guinea washing machine, barometers, photographic outfit, and hundreds of other useful prizes. The charm of the surprise packet i-, that a prize value sixpence is promised in each packet. During tho war the association let their own funds go to raise money for patriotic purposes. This surprise packet day affords an opportunity to recognise the good work done in the past by the '"commercials," and assist in this effort to augment the relief funds of that organisation.
