MANUKAU COUNTY COUNCIL
The Manukau County Council lield its annual meeting at the Council Chambers, at Gleeson's Bulldinps yesterday. There were present: Messrs. A. D. Bell (chairman), F. H. Brownhlll, A. W. Reld, 5. W. House, J. Hnlse. F. IL Waters, A. E. Hattaw.iy ,to. cether with the clerk, Mr. Alex. Bell, and the engineer, Mr. W. J. Lopdell. The report of last year was read. It contained a comprehensive account of the reading loans raised during the year, amounting in all to £44.000, ln addition to a machinery loan of £9000. The Papatoetoe Town Board and the Mannrewa Town Board separated themselves from the control of tie Council during the last year. The receipts of the generai account for the year ending March 31. 1910, showing an increase over the previous year of £36SS 6/2. The report went on: "It is expected that: at the end of the ensuing year the Council's accounts will he further Increased as a resnlt of meriting Road Boards. In connection with the merging of these Road Hoards, the i Council is now losing a -considerable amount j of money annually through the decrease of Government subsidy on rates, and there i.s no possibility of this matter being overcome until all Road Boards -within the county are merged. "With the object in view of forcing small Road Boards to merge, or having legislation otherwise amended, the Council, together with representatives from the Waitemata County, are to wait upon the JYime Minister at a date to be arranged later." Mr. A. D. Bell was re-elected chairman on the motion of Mr. T. H. Brownhlll. seconded by Mr. S. W. House.
