EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTE.

AUCKLAND BRANCH MEETING. The ordinary meeting of the Managing Committee of the Auckland Branch of the New Zealand Educational Institute was held on Saturday morning last, Mr. I_ Mclnness being in the chair. Representatives of several of the sub-branches | were present. I The secretary gave an account of the recent inquiry re the grading of teachers by the Education Committee of the House of Representatives, the final result of the inquiry being a division in the House on the question as to whether or not the report of tbe committee should be laid on .the table. The result of the division, he* said, completely justified thet institute's efforts on.behalf of the appelJants against the 191S grading. Once more the Department's action in the matter was judged to be unfair to these appellants.

A hearty vote of thanks was accorded to Messr.s. E. C. Blomfield and G. H. Taylor, who represented the institute at the inquiry. The secretary was also instructed to send letters of thanks to the members of Parliament who had so ably supported the cause of Auckland teachers.

After a general discussion regarding a roll of honour for teachers who went on active service, a sub-committee was appointed to consider the question of providing a memorial to be erected on some suitable site in the city, or of recording in some other way the sacrifices made by soldier teachers. The final decision will be made at the next quarterly meeting of ih c branch.
