Rimmer urged that-the-lack of a Sunday train to Auckland bad seriously affected the city's milk supply and Mir. J. The deputation in reference to the serious nartu-re of the sand drift trouble pointed out that there was an area of 35,000 acres of sand dunes in the district and that if Hot checked 'the sand would soon cover the railway line. It w« suggested that the -tovemmeitt take over the sand-covered areas, deal with them, and then give the owners the option of getting back their land 'mt ; valuation. In reply the Minister said that v alteration to the time-table for the Northern line had recently been decided upon, and he would communicate w.rfch Mr. Massey to discover what those alterations were, and at the same time place the request of the deputation.'before .im. As to the sand troubled if the settlers would agree to help he would try and arrange with 'his colleague, the Hon. Mr. Guthrie, to send an officer to the district to inspect and report upon tihe sand with the idea.of having something done to cope with the evil. Mr. N. W. Rimmer said the farma* would readily assist the Government officer who made the investigation.
