RAID ON HUSBAND'S ROOMS.
■WIFE'S RUSE TO GET EVIDENCE. One of the most dramatic of methods of obtaining evidence for a divorce action has just been followed by the wife of Joseph A. Robertson, of New York. Ever since their separation about four years ago, asserts Mrs. Robertson, she has been trying to establish facts which would enable her to bring an action. Recently she engaged detectives and a scheme was evolved for the surveillance of the doctor. One of the party engaged was instructed to rent an apartment with a woman, supposedly his wife, at the hotel In which tie doctor lives. In this way Dr. Robertson was closely watched. On the night of August 0, it was said, an attractive young woman was seen approaching Dr. Robertson's apartments. Mrs. Robertson and her attorney were communicated with and four other members of the party engaged by her were summoned. They waited until dawn was approaching. Then the man playing the role of "husband" hurried to the clerk announcing that his "wife" was seriously ill. Dr. Robertson was telephoned to and said he would attend the woman as soon as he dressed. But the "husband" became anxious and hurried upstairs saying he would meet the physician. The other members of the party followed. . Immediately Dr. Robertson opened the! door of his apartment the group, it Is said, rushed into the room. Then, they summoned Mrs. Robertson. A young woman en dishabille, it is alleged, confronted the physician's wife and tried vainly to hide herself. Then the attorney turned to Mrs. Robertson and said: "Do you know this woman?" "Yes, it is Maud Davis, a nurse," "Mrs. Robertson is quoted as saying. Dr. Robertson indignantly demanded to know the cause of the intrusion and ordered everyone from the apartment. Three years ago Dr. Robertson advertised that he would not be responsible for his wife's debts. His wife asserted in reply that be had never paid any of her debts.
