NORTH SUBURBAN LINE.
BETTER SERVICES WANTED. DUPLICATION OF 'LINE URGED. The problem of suburban railway! time tables was discussed by a con-' ference of some thirty representatives I of local bodies and districts tapped by -the North suburban line, held I in Auckland this morning, as a! preliminary to making definite suggestions to the Department for the im-' provement to the existing railway ser-j vices between the city and suburbs' I Mr. 'Neebitt chairman of the Avondale! Road Board, presided at the conference,' This took the form of the subjoined, resolutions as follows:— j "That suburban area be extended to 20 mile limit, mileage to count from Newmarket, and that suburban timetable be extended to end of suburban line." I ! "That only motor-trains stop at Kingsland." . J "That engine turntable be erected at end of suburban line." "That the Kaipara train be speeded iup to arrive at town at not later than ,'8.50." j "That the 5.12 train carry long dis-| tance passengers only, stopping at Newmarket, Mt. Eden, and thence to New: 'Lynn, Waikumete, Henderson, etc. A train to start five minutes later stopping at all stations to New Lynn." ° j "That an additional train be started! from town at about 5.45." i "That Scroggy Hill be made a flag l station." [ "That the shunting at Xewmarßet be! (eliminated by the erection of a station 1 at the triangle.'.' j "That a through train to Helensville: be run, leaving town at a later hour 'than at present, preferably starting 'about 5 o'clock." °| "That the work of duplication between I Mt. Eden and Henderson be proceeded with." i Mr. Xesbitt then headed a deputationto the departmental offices, received by Mr. W. T. Williams, of the head office, Wellington, and Mr. A. Duncan, the Auckland district traffic manager. The deputation made strong representations along the lines of the resolutions urging an early reinstatement of the pre-war services, including Sunday trains, and the institution of better facilities to complete the journey from Mt. Eden to the furthest point of the suburban line within an hour. The deputation also urged the removal of alleged anomalies in fares, and asked for the duplication of the line from Mt. Edcii_ to Henderson as a means of gaining nettcr and more consistent services. The speakers were Messrs. Nesbitt j (Avondale), Goldstone (Kumeu), Robertson (Swanson), H. Green (waterside workers), Oiphant (Waitemata County Council), C. F. Gardner (Suburban Railway League).
