Four cricket teams threw down their bat 6, pads, and scoring books in Hagley Park on Saturday (says the '"'Lyttelton Times") and joined in an exciting chase across country after a man who was suspected of appropriating a motor cycle. The machine -was taken from its stand among the trees, but efforts to get it going along the Riccarton Road failed, and the man made an attempt to get quietly array. By this time, however, the alarm had t>een given, and over 40 iboye and young men joined in the hunt. The trail led eventually to a private house, and at this stage tho help of the police was enlisted. The incident closed with the taking of the strauger's name and a bint of further proceedings. The case of L. Hallam, of Opotiki, sheepfarmer (Mr. Elliott) v. A. Sligo, of .Gisborne, motor engineer (Mr. Kane), was heard at Opotiki on Friday, October 1". Tlie claim was for extensive damages to plaintiff's car, the result of a. collision on the Motu-Opotiki road. Judgment wae given in favour of the defendant.
