Word has been received by the Union Steamship Company that the Makura left Honolulu on Sunday evening, and is due to arrive at Suva on Tuesday, thus arriving here on tbe 31st. She is due to sail for 'Sydney on November 3. THE KITTAWA'S MOVEMENTS. The Kittawa, w-hich is down to leave Wellington at six o'clock this evening. Shipping circles are relieved to find that the overdue Abemama, which should have ■been in this port some days ago, did not leave Newcastle until Thursday last, and will probably reach port in a week's time. She is bringing a full cargo of hardwood poles. THE PALOONA'S ARRIVAL. The Island steamer Paloona arrived late yesterday afternoon from Suva, berthing at the Queen's Wharf. She brought a cargo -jf -sugar and some tropical fruits, and left this morning for Chelsea to unload her sugar. She will return with passengers to , the Inlands on Wednesday. The Jubilee, for Nlue Island, left at 11 o'clock t_is morning. The Poherua left Picton to-day with a full load of chaff for Onehunga. It is now definitely decided that Monday next (Labour Day) is to be regarded as a close holiday on the waterfront by the Waterside Workers' Union. The City ot Wincvhester Ooading under the agency of the Shaw-Savill), left Lyttelton yesterday morning for Waltarn to complete her New Zealand loading. She is to leave Waitara for Melbourne on October 30. Advice has been received by the Union Company to the effect that the Kokiri is due at Westport to-day, and will leave that port for Auckland on Wednesday. The Kowbal has left Westport with a full load of coal for Onehunga. The Rakanoa, according to latest advices, should arrive from Newcastle at S o'clock this evening. She will unload her coal at the Central wharf, while the Karori, which should be iv at daylight, is to berth at Hobson wharf. The Remuera, on arrival on Sunday, will berth at the Queen's wharf, while the IMokofa. due from Glsborne, arriving at about 5 o'clock this evening, will her h at the King's wharf. The latter steamer will start on her return trip on Wednesday, calling at Napier, "Wellington, Lyttelton and Dunedin. MOKOIA TO-NIGHT. Latest advices received by the Union Company state that the Mokoia, from hte East Coast, should arrive about sunset. TORT SYDNEY REPORTED. Advice has been received that the Tort (Sydney, en route from London, left Cape Town "last Thursday for Melbourne, Sydney, Auckland, Napier and Wellington. 0 TOFUA LEAVES PAPEETE. • According to a Press Association message from Dunedin the Tofua from San Francisco, arrived at Papeete on Sunday night, and sailed on Tuesday morning for Rarotonga and Wellington. UNION COMPANY'S WAR LOSSES. During the war the Union Steam Ship j Company lost 10 steamers, aggregating ! 59,320 tons. Since the end of last year it has bought three vessels totalling 14,617 tons. These are the Waitemata, Wairuna> ■and Kalwarra—the first-named being an exGerman steamer. Two others (the Walhemo aud Wnikawa), each 0 f 6700 tons, are uearinp completion on the stocks in England. The compny's -pre-war fleet was composed of 70 steamers, aggregating 263,----717 gross tons; to-day it numbers 71 steamers, of 230.40S tons. The steamers tost were -the Apatima (5704), Avenger (12,000), Limerick (6527), Roscommon (7351), Wathem 0 (4253). Wal—ira (5C42), and Waitemata (5432) —all mined or torpedoed; the Walruna (3047) destroyed by the German raider Wolff near the Kermedec Islands, ln the Pacific Ocean; and Waitotara (4717), burnt in the Pacific while carrying a cargo of benzine; and the Malta I (3393) v wrecked on a reef ot Rarotonga.
