(Before Mr. J. E. Wilson, S.M.) LOOKING EOR LODGINGS. "I give meself up for maintenance till Monday morning," declared a man, aged 5a years, who came up as a first offender. "I think he requires some medical attention," remarked Senior Sergeant McXamara, and the men was sent along for maintenance and medical attention for a week at the Mount Eden boardinghouse. Another first offender was convicted and discharged, and one forfeited bail. Hugh James Murray (30), for getting drink when prohibited, was lined 50/. DOWN, DOWN, DOWN. •'A social derelict," was the Senior Sergeant's description of William Betts (02). who had been found wandering about the King's wharf in the early hours of this morning. When accosted by a policeman he said he had just come. off "the island" on Monday, and bad no home, shelter, food, or cash, and he appeared to have lost his memory, too, to some extent, for he was under the impression that the day was Tuesday. Sergeant McNamara stated that there were in all 122 previous convictions against the man, but they were all for drunkenness and vagrancy, not one being for dishonesty. The Salvation Army I people had done their best for him, and lie had just been about three years at I Rotoroa, but he had not lost his vagrant j touch, and he seemed to have failed so much that he could not nt present .do work to keep himself. Betts was remanded for a week for medical observation. A BROKEN TRUST. Reginald George Porter (21). a sea- ; man, admitted that on Thursday last i week he stole 20/ belonging to Harold • Rtapleton. The young man had been ! entrusted by a mate with the £1 to give to Staploton, and instead of keeping -his I trust he spent tiie money. When in[quiries were made he strenuously denied i the breach of trust till a policeman got on his track, and he then owned up. His record hitherto had been clean. Accused was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence if called upon within six months, a condition being that he should immediately repay the money he had misused. MISCELLANEOUS. i Henry Francis J. Brown (44), \vho| had got into arrears with a maintenance| order respecting his wife, was ordered to pay 15/ a week off the arrears, in default j a month's imprisonment. j
