SOCIAL JOTTINGS. Miss F. Hall-Jones is visiting Auckland. Lynch, of Pukutoatoa, ; j Kumeroa, Hawke's Bay, to Mr. W. J. J. Miller, second son of Mrs. Miller, and the , j late Mr. P. C. Miller, of Auckland. Part of the success of the fete organ- ' ised in aid of the waterside workers' efforts is due to the able assistance lent by the women's committee, who were ! in charge of different stalls for which they had been working for many months. These stalls -were loaded with all kinds of garments, cut out by Miss Myers and ably finished by many assistants. The underwear stall showed_a fine display of all kinds of lingerie, both plain and fancy, boudoir caps and crepe de chine I garments, enough to charm the feminine , heart. The 6tall was in charge of Mrs. Green, assisted by Mesdames Paris and Walton. A stall for babies' clothing was also excellently stocked, and did a good business under the direction of Mrs. Farland, assisted by Mesdames Dimery, Merrin, and Barranger', while a sweet stall was in charge of Mrs. Clark, who was assisted by a bevy of young j girls dressed in Quaker grey. The stall j for fancy goods and flowers was controlled by Mrs. Brondbent, assisted by friends. The mystic future was attended ito by Mrs. Jensen and Mrs. Tomlinson, jwho attracted a lot of patrons, i while great assistance was given jby Mrs. Lawrence, who accomI panied the songs and dances, ' which were given 'all through the fete. Tiro Auckland City Band also had a jumble stall at the fete, which was in charge of Mrs. Rust-on, assisted by a number of young lady assistants, the proceeds of whose efforts goes to the asi sistancc of the band which needs new instruments to fill gaps in its ranks caused by removal and war. Another stall dispensed afternoon tea, and with , a peep into the future by the aid of the teacup. This istall was under the charcre of Mrs. C. Bland, assisted by Mrs. Webb, I Mrs. Hankin and Miss Somerville. j WAIKATO NOTES. Mrs. Isics has been the guest of Miss Clapcott, at "Warwick." Mr. and Mrs. l'ountney have gone to Rotorua on a short holiauy. Mrs. Insoll is at present staying in Auckland. MiBS Clapcott spent the week-end in Auckland with relatives. j Miss Brosnon paid a flying visit to I Auckland last week. Mrs. Biggs has been spending a short holiday with relatives in Frank'ton. j Mr. and Mrs. Campbell, ol Whangarei, have been staying with Mrs. R. Darke, Claudelands. Mrs. McCormiek is a guest of Mrs. Cubitt. Mi_ C. Jolly is at present spending a ■holiday at St. Helier's. Miss Whitton has left on a holiday to her sister in Hawke's Bay. Mr., Mrs., and Miss Henley have returned home after a brief visit to Auckland. Matron Rothwell left last week for her annual holiday, and is staying at Stonehurst in Auckland, and will also visit Rotorua before again taking up her duties in hospital. Mrs. _T. Ferguson paid a flying visit to the city last -week. -* ■Mrs. Gray is at present on a visit to Hamilton to see her son. The Returned Men's Association gave a delightful little evening to the ladies who, on jnany occasions, had helped them with their social work. The dance •was held in St. Peter's Hall, which looked very bright and gay with flags and bunting, the floor was in perfect order, and the music was all that could lie wished for. The supper-tables were prettily decorated with narcissi. Dancing -was kept up till a late hour. Mrs. H. Douglas, president of the Hockey Association, gave a social for the 1010 seafiovi last Thursday evening, in St. Peter's Hall. AU went -with a bright and happy swing from start to finish, games and dancing -were indulged in, and Mrs. Fronde supplied excellent' music. Mrs. Ross also played all extras. During the evening Dr. Douglas presented the trophies. The seven-a-side cup, presented by SergeantMajor Lawrence, was -won-out by the High School, and the donor has again promised another cup to be competed for next season. The 6evcn-a-ide hockey cup was also -won by the' High School team. After this a pleasing little ceremony took place, -when the members of the three clubs presented Mißs Harrison with a gold brooch as an appreciation for the good work she had done, and also nt a token of their personal esteem, and Mr. Fabling, ns coach and referee for the Association, was presented •with a fountain nen and referee's -whistle.
