WAIHI ASSOCIATION' FORMED. At a largely attended meeting held in the Borongb Council Chambers, it was .resolved ■o form a Waini Boxing Association, and tne tallowing officers were appointed:—Patron, Dr. Short; president, Mr. S. M. Hovell; rice-president and treasurer, Mr. W M. Wallnirtt; Secretary, Mr. C. W. Ritchie; -ommittee. Messrs. .J. J. Caliaghan, J. Stone, J. Collins, S. Walmsley, J. Horn, w. W. Faulder, J. F. TtoDinson, E. A. Wilson. H M Mnlllns C. Rolfe, Daldy Maewilliams md Dr. Short. At a subsequent meeting It was resolved to offer a pnrse of £100. inclusive of expenses, for a lightweight contest us the star item of the Association's Srst meeting. Five representatives visited Hamilton on the occasion of the recent tournament there, and several matches were lrrnnged for the Waihi meeting. The principal event is to be a professional tenronnd contest between Mr. G. Venn, of Taumarunul, feather-weight champion of New Zealand, but now overweight, and Mr. M. James, of Auckland, lightweight champion of New Zealand. Though Venn was defeated by Robinson, of Gisborne, at Htmllton, the Walhl representatives were more than satnsfled with his showing, and that he will pnt up a good fight with James. A series of special fcouts, covering all weights. i 3 also being arranged. The date of the meeting has not yet been fixed. Mr. T. Sampson, of Auckland, was elected as referee fop the Association.
