CONTROL AND SALARIES. STRONGLY WORDED RESOLUTIONS. (By Telesrrapli.—rress Association.) 'i WELLINGTON', Wednesday. The Thorndon branch of the Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants, at a epeeial meeting to-night, resolved:— "That thrs meeting- of the second division of railwayraen strongly objects to the Railways Bill now before Parliament being made law in its present form. We also strongly protest against the Jarge increases in salaries being made to officers who are now eligible to retire on a handsome competency, thereby increasing their superannuation beyond a reasonable amount while other men are entirely unable to make ends meet on their present wages. We further pledge, our support to our executive in any' action they may take in order to secure for us a living wage.*' PROTEST "FROM WOODVTLIE. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WOODYTIfLE. Wednesday. ] The Woodville branch of the Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants passed the following resolutions at a special meeting yesterday: —"That this meeting views with alarm the attempt made in Parliament to confer autocratic powers upon the General Manager of Railways in- the matter of promotion, which, if carried out. will lea-d to endless trouble in the service." I 'That we protest ag-ainst the proposal to grant large increases in salaries to first division officers due to retire, while no provision is made to increase the wages of members of the second division ." "That we have confidence in the executive and pledge ouree-lves to support whatever attitude it adopt* to defeat these proposals." INVESTIGATION DEMANDED. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) NAPIER, Wednesday, The following resolutions were carried by the Napier branch of the Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants: — "That the members of the Napier branch of the Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants strongly protest against the) action of the management in increasing the first division salaries to such an extent and altogether ignoring the second division claims for increases. W« demand that our executive should take immediate action, and instantly reopen the whole schedule of the second divi-j sion for a further increase of not lees'; than 2/6 per. day all round. We also with to contradict the statement appearing in the daily papers regarding- increases to the second division, which is absolutely contrary to the fact." "This meeting also strongly condemns the action of the Government in handing over to the General Manager the adjustment of the classracation list, and urges the Hallways Committee to make the strictest and fullest inquiries into thi* matter.' "That the above resolutions are the outcome of the ever-decreasing purchasing power ol the sovereign." J '.
