BOROUGH COUNCILS.

TAKAPUNA. A meeting of the Takapuna Borough Council was held last evening under the chairmanship of the Mayor (Mr. W. Blomfleld). Mr. R. Cunningham was granted leave of absence for four months ou account of an Impending trip to America, and Mr. F. W. Better was appointed to All the temporary vacancies on committees. The State Advances Department wrote intimating that the Council's application for a loan of £5000 had been granted. In accordance with the recommendation of committee, Council confirmed the pro- ■ posal ro alter the names of streets as follows: —Hansen Road to be Hart Road. Beuch Avenue to be Sanders Avenue, , White's Hill to be Forrest Hill, Lake Town ißoad to be Jellicoe-Road, Marine Parade | 'to be Pierce Road. v "' Council decided to forward a remit to the Marine Boroughs' Association, recom- ' mending the recoustitution of the Lake Takapuna Board of Control, with extended powers to provide for a satisfactory water supply for the Northern marine boroughs. It was also resolved to rejoin the Association, conditionally upou the other boroughs arriving at a similar decision. BIRKENHEAD. School Ground.—The 'Northcote District ; School Committee requested the Council to , allow its staff to plough the school grounds ■ - at the Birkenhead School, the committee to I bear the expense. Marine Boroughs ..-socintion.—The c-on-i j stitution of the Marine Boroughs Assoeiaj tion was approved, and it was decided to become a member of that body. £15.000 Loan.—-Debentures for £5.000 of the £15.000 loan were signed on behalf of , the Council, the State Advances Board __vI Ing intimated that the Council's applica- ! | tion for a loan of £10.000 had been granted. The Mayor pointed out that the Interest | payable was 44 per cent, which meant a payment of £125 less per annum for the I next 25 years than it was anticipated the I Council would have to pay when the loan proposals were placed before the rate- ! payers, and Birkenhead could he considered fortunate in the light of the rate of interest being paid by many local boilies.
