MINIMUM FARE CAR.
UNFAIR TAX. NEWMARKET COMPLAINT. A letter from ine Town Clerk of the Auckland City Council in reference to the 5.3 p.m. Onehunga car from Wellesley Street brought a protest from the Newmarket Borough Council last evening. The Town Cleric wrote that in reply to the letter from the Newmarket Council agreeing to the 5.3 p.m. Onehunga car from Welleeley Street being made a minimum fare c»r provided the minimum fare charged was 2d, he had to inform the Council that the consent of a majority of the local 'bodies having been obtained this car was to be. run as a minimum fare car, and that the minimum fare would be 3d. Mr. Donaldson eaid this was a matter which affected the Newmarket Council vitally. They had a deed of delegation, and they should insist on having their views reepected. He moved that they write to the City Council protesting against the infringement of their rights. Mr. T. H. Watts seconded the motion, and said they should object very'strongly to the imposition of this tax. The motion was supported by the Mayor (Mr. Leek) and carried.
