OBITUARY.
CANON J. W. STACK. Information has been received of the death at Worthing, England, on October 13, of the Rev. Canon .lames West Stnck, a gentleman who was well known in New Zealand- Deceased was a son of the Rev. .lames Stack, and was born in the Waikato in 1833. In 1852 he joined the Church of England Missionary Society, was lay assent in the Waikato. and later was in charge of the Maori Mission in Canterbury. lie was appointed a canon of Christehurch Cathedral in 1894, nnd four years later, laid the foundation stone of the Maori monument at Iviiapobia. The canon and his wife left New Zealand in 1898. and finally settled at Worthing in Sussex. Decea-ed was a valued contributor to the Canterbury Philosophical Institute. His story of the capture of Kaiapohia Pa by Te Rauparaha is a valuable contribution to ancient history of New Zealand.
