In the Legislative Council this afternoon a message from the House of Representatives stated that the Ho_W had agreed to the amendment made in the Women's Parliamentary Rights BilL Tlie Housing Bill was read a seconi time pro rormii, and was referred to to* Statutes' Revision Committee. The following bills were received from the House of Representatives, and wera read a first time: —Treaties of Peaee> External Affairs. Public Health Amendment, and Expeditionary Forces Voting. The Tauranga Borough Council Electric Loans Empowering, Tauranga Harbour Board Empowering, and the Manawatu County Loans Empowering Amendment Bills were put through their final stages and passed. SCHOOLS CADET SYSTEM. Tlie Hon. C. A. C. Hardy (Rakain) moved:—"That it would be in the best interests of the Dominion if the Govern"ment would re-establish the cadet system that obtained in the national schools before 1012." He said the teachers were very much in favour of this being done. After discussion, Sir Francis Bell said that as a member of the Government which had abolished the junior cadet system, he could not be expected to declare in its favour. Any resolution of the Council, however, would be treated with duo respect by the Government of the day. The motion was carried on the voicea, without dissent. The Council adjourned at 4.15 p.m.

"A big job successfully accomplished' was a general comment at the Otago dock. Port Chalmers, last Saturday. The comment had reference to the big steamer Westmorland, and to the fact that the extensive repairs to her bottom were completed. Tlie water was being admitted to the deck for the first time since July 26 last, when the repairing of the Westmorland was commenced. Since then over 30 big shell plates have been removed from her bottom, repaired and replaced, while extensive repairing and renewing of ironwork inside t_o shell has been also carried out.
